Also on Disney+, Wonder Man finally got a first trailer and a new release date (Jan 27, 2026), promising a Hollywood satire vibe with Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as a struggling actor-turned-hero alongside Ben Kingsley’s Trevor Slattery
Marvel’s Animation panel also delivered: Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (the animated series) confirmed a Fall 2026 debut for Season 2, teasing Peter Parker’s encounter with the Venom symbiote at Oscorp and a cameo by Charlie Cox’s Daredevil (voicing an animated Matt Murdock in classic red suit).

On top of that, X-Men ’97 is not only gearing up for Season 2 in Summer 2026 – with Apocalypse returning and the X-Men literally scattered through time – but it’s already renewed for Season 3 to keep the ’90s mutant nostalgia rolling annually
And to cap it off, Marvel unveiled mind-blowing details about Vision Quest (the upcoming White Vision series): the NYCC trailer revealed James Spader back as Ultron – now in a human form, no less – plus the android bride Jocasta and even an adult Tommy Maximoff joining the story
It appears Vision Quest will serve as a thematic finale to the WandaVision saga, so the hype is real!
Animated heroes assemble! Marvel’s X-Men ’97 cartoon will continue the legendary ’90s saga, with Season 2 set for Summer 2026 and an early renewal for Season 3 announced
Marvel Comics Universe – Not to be outdone, Marvel Comics used NYCC to tease where its comic storylines are headed in 2026. In a panel aptly titled “Next Big Thing,” Marvel promised that the recently revived Ultimate Universe will come to an end (for real this time) by April 2026 as the Ultimate Endgame event concludes
We also learned a new Iron Man series is coming from writer Joshua Williamson, where Tony Stark faces a cabal of genius rivals coerced into recreating his original armor tech
Spider-Man fans got news that Peter Parker will return from his current space adventure just in time for a dark new crossover called Death Spiral – teaming Spidey with Venom and Carnage against a superhuman serial killer (launching February 2026) – followed by a Summer 2026 event Queen in Black, featuring the venomous villain Knull and Thor’s goddess Hela forming an unholy alliance

Over in X-Men land, the mutant saga marches on after the fall of the Krakoan Age. Post-NYCC we now know an Age of Revelation future storyline wraps this year, and in 2026 the X-books will enter a new era dubbed “Shadows of Tomorrow.” Expect limited series for fan-favorites like Cyclops and Rogue (each getting solo spotlight miniseries in early 2026) and team books like Inglorious X-Force starring Cable, a demonic “Hellverine,” and more
Even Storm and Laura Kinney (Wolverine) are getting fresh series titles
It’s a ton to take in, but one message is clear: Marvel’s comic universe is headed for big shake-ups – so start saving those coins for all the new issue #1’s and tie-ins coming our way!

DC Comics & Universe Big Plans 🎉
Not to be outdone, DC had major announcements spanning comics, animation, and more – signaling an exciting future for the DCU and its publishing line:
“DC Next Level” Comics Initiative – Coming out of DC’s wild K.O. crossover event (where heroes are battling everyone – even Mortal Kombat fighters – to stop Darkseid), DC unveiled a bold new publishing slate for 2026 called “DC Next Level.” This will launch after the current event wraps and will feature eight brand-new series headlined by some fan-favorite characters
Among the big titles announced: Batwoman (with comics legend Greg Rucka returning to write Kate Kane’s adventures)
Lobo (penned by the irreverent Skottie Young, which should be a wild ride), plus new series for Zatanna, Deathstroke, The Demon (Etrigan), Firestorm, Barbara Gordon: Breakout (spotlighting Oracle/Batgirl) and Shadow of the Bat. DC kept creative teams under wraps for most of these, but teased a roster of top talent (Jeff Lemire, Mariko Tamaki, Joshua Williamson and more are involved)
Batwoman is slated to kick off Next Level in March 2026, with others to follow
In short, the DC Universe in comics is headed to a “next level” refresh, so get ready for beloved characters back in the spotlight – and plenty of new story arcs to add to your pull list!
Vertigo Imprint Revival – NYCC also marked the triumphant return of DC’s Vertigo (the famed mature-readers imprint) with ten new series announced for 2026
This Vertigo relaunch lineup is stacked with talent and original concepts. For example, James Tynion IV’s acclaimed horror series The Nice House is continuing under Vertigo with a new cycle (The Nice House by the Sea #7 coming Feb. 2026)
On top of that, nine brand-new creator-owned titles span genres from zombie dystopia to occult noir: Bleeding Hearts (a zombie society tale)
End of Life (hitman faces his mortality)
The Peril of the Brutal Dark (supernatural detective mystery)
100 Bullets: The U.S. of Anger (yes, the classic team Azzarello/Risso are back with a violent new 100 Bullets saga!)
100 Bullets The US of Anger Cover Art
Black Tower: The Raven Conspiracy (wizard spies in a Cold War thriller)
Necretaceous (time-traveling scientists vs. dinosaurs & zombies – need we say more?)
Fanatic (deadly fan obsession with a comic creator), The Crying Doll (a psychological Jekyll-and-Hyde thriller), and A Walking Shadow (a Saw-like mystery with strangers waking up chained in the woods)
These Vertigo titles roll out starting February (one new #1 each week)
It’s a huge infusion of fresh stories that harkens back to DC’s edgy Vertigo spirit – and all of them are creator-owned and pushing boundaries. If you love discovering the next Sandman or Saga, this Vertigo revival is extremely promising. Collectible alert: these series are likely to produce some hot debut issues and cover art – Vertigo’s legacy guarantees some cult hits in the making.
Other DC Highlights – The NYCC DC panel had even more to excite comic fans. They assured readers that despite big crossovers, the core heroes will remain on track – “Absolute” editions of Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman stories will be “completely unimpeded” by the chaos of DC K.O., per Scott Snyder
DC’s publisher Jim Lee also took a stand against AI in comics, firmly stating the company rejects AI-generated art or stories – it’s all about human creators at DC
And in perhaps the most eyebrow-raising deep-cut news: DC is finally releasing the infamous lost story where Swamp Thing meets Jesus Christ, resurrecting a controversial 1989 tale as a four-part series at last (Yes, that’s really happening – talk about a collectible conversation piece!). Lastly, on the multimedia side, DC Animation announced a treat for Bat-fans: a new animated feature adapting the iconic “Knightfall” comic saga is in production. It will be a multi-part film series, with Batman: Knightfall Part 1 slated for 2026 and set to retell Bane’s brutal takedown of the Dark Knight in full detail Between that and a fun family-oriented Batman animated series (Bat-Fam) that got its first trailer (coming to Prime Video in Nov. 2025)
DC showed it’s catering to every segment of its fandom. In short, whether you’re into gritty Vertigo vibes, classic heroes, or animated Batman for your kids, DC gave you plenty to be excited about.
Anime & Animation Highlights 🤩
Anime lovers had plenty to celebrate at NYCC 2025, as major streaming platforms and publishers unveiled new seasons and projects sure to spawn a wave of cosplay and collectibles:
Crunchyroll’s Anime Slate – The anime streaming giant held a packed showcase and did not disappoint. One of the biggest cheers came when Season 3 of Oshi no Ko was officially announced, with a special trailer confirming the hit idol drama will stream on Crunchyroll in Winter 2026
Given Oshi no Ko’s global popularity, this was a huge moment – fans can look forward to more of Ai’s story and all the music, drama and twists that come with it. Crunchyroll also unveiled the world premiere trailer for Daemons of the Shadow Realm, the next anime from Fullmetal Alchemist creator Hiromu Arakawa, set to debut on the platform in April 2026
The trailer (presented by producer Sota Furuhashi on-stage) gave fans an exciting first look at this dark fantasy series. In addition, a new teaser visual was shown for the upcoming Witch Hat Atelier anime, offering a glimpse of fan-favorite character Qifrey in all his silver-haired, mentor-magician glory
And Crunchyroll’s announcements didn’t stop at video – they also rolled out their brand-new Crunchyroll Manga app for U.S./Canada, which offers 200+ manga titles (from publishers like VIZ, Square Enix, Yen Press, etc.) as part of Crunchyroll’s membership

She’s back! The hit idol anime Oshi no Ko had its Season 3 officially announced at NYCC 2025, with a new trailer confirming the series returns in winter 2026.
Other Anime & Toon Treats – Beyond Crunchyroll, several other animated projects made waves. Netflix’s breakout Adventure Time spin-off, Fionna and Cake, surprised con-goers by confirming a Season 2 renewal during its NYCC panel
In fact, lucky fans in attendance even got to watch the entire Season 2 premiere episode early
The new season of Fionna and Cake (a more mature, fantastical take on the Adventure Time universe) promises to bring back more fan-favorite characters – including Huntress Wizard – and continue the duo’s wild journey through the Land of Ooo’s multiverse.

This news had the crowd roaring with excitement. On the superhero animation side, Amazon’s animated hit Invincible also dropped a bombshell: the show revealed that actor Lee Pace is joining Invincible as the voice of the iconic villain Thragg, and that Season 4 will premiere in March 2026
Hardcore comic fans know Thragg is a huge deal (the Viltrumite Empire’s evil emperor), so this casting has people amped up – and the first look image of Thragg drawn in the show’s style drew big cheers (Invincible Season 3, for reference, hits this winter, so Amazon is confidently planning ahead with Season 4 already on deck.)

Meanwhile, in the realm of mature comic adaptations, the universe of The Boys on Prime Video had its moment as well. At the NYCC panel for Gen V (the college-themed Boys spin-off), fans were treated to shocking crossover cameos and plot teases connecting directly to the main series. Without spoiling too much, let’s just say a certain reveal appears to alter Homelander’s origin story – a twist that had everyone talking
The panel’s biggest takeaways included surprise appearances by characters from The Boys, new supes joining the fray, and even an emotional tribute to the late Matthew Collier (a beloved crew member) that left the room teary-eyed. It’s clear Amazon is pulling no punches in tying Gen V Season 2 into the greater Boys lore, which only ups the anticipation for the next season of The Boys itself. In short, the TV side of fandom is thriving – from adult animation to live-action superhero satire – and NYCC gave us plenty to mark on our calendars.
Beyond Superheroes: Movie & Pop Culture Hype 🔥
NYCC isn’t just about comics and anime – it’s a full-spectrum pop culture event, and 2025’s con had news for movie buffs and more that set the show floor abuzz:
Edgar Wright’s The Running Man – In a special Empire Stage presentation, director Edgar Wright and actor Glen Powell (joined by co-star Lee Pace) blew fans away by debuting the first trailer for their new sci-fi action thriller The Running Man
This film is a fresh adaptation of Stephen King’s dystopian story, and Wright reassured the crowd that it hews closer to the original 1982 novel than the 1987 Schwarzenegger cult-classic. The NYCC-exclusive trailer (now released online) showcased high-octane action “beyond anything we expected” – with a game show fight-for-your-life that spans the entire globe. Attendees were electrified by Wright’s signature kinetic style on display; you could instantly tell it’s an Edgar Wright film from the slick editing and energetic visuals. The cast is stacked (Powell leads, alongside names like Colman Domingo, Emilia Jones, Michael Cera, and even Josh Brolin as part of the ensemble) and the film is set to hit theaters November 14, 2025. This surprise NYCC drop has quickly turned The Running Man into one of the most anticipated geek films of the year. Get ready for the merchandising onslaught – we’re already imagining Funko Pops of these characters and retro-’80s-inspired poster art on our walls!

Trekkies enjoyed a fun Star Trek: Strange New Worlds panel where actor Martin Quinn (Scotty) charmed the audience and even pitched an idea for an episode set in Scotland
And animation legend Genndy Tartakovsky sneak-previewed footage from his next project – causing animation buffs’ jaws to hit the floor. Even the world of Critical Role (the hit D&D actual-play turned media franchise) made a splash: their NYCC announcements revealed that The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4 will feature none other than Wayne Brady joining the voice cast as flamboyant paladin Taryon Darrington, and that the upcoming animated Mighty Nein series has cast Lucy Liu as the formidable Bright Queen. The CR cast and creators teased emotional storylines and even dropped hints at classic D&D villains possibly appearing.
