“Cloak Or Dagger” #1 The Comics Meet the Marvel Rivals Multiverse

COMICS / GAMING

Marvel has officially announced a brand-new Cloak Or Dagger limited series beginning October 29, 2025, written by Justina Ireland with art by Lorenzo Tammetta. The solicitation teases a haunting concept: Tyrone (Cloak) and Tandy (Dagger) are now married, but their bond has come with a terrible cost—they “can no longer exist on the same plane at the same time.” Reunited at last, their love story is warped by power and fate.†1

This iteration is part of Marvel’s larger X‑Men: Age of Revelation event, and Ireland says the story gives her the chance to explore these characters in a new light—as a married couple whose lives are intrinsically linked.♦2 She explained in an X‑Men Monday interview that she has long followed Cloak & Dagger and has been frustrated by how much the comics have forced them apart; writing them as a couple, she says, is “incredibly fun.”♦2

Here’s what we know so far:

📚 Release Schedule & Story Format

Issue #1 — October 29, 2025 (on sale)†1 The arc is slated as a three‑part story with Part 3 expected to arrive Christmas Eve 2025 according to Marvel’s event planning†4.

As part of Age of Revelation, Cloak Or Dagger ties into the broader mutant upheaval and reality‑reshaping stakes of the event.†4

That positioning hints that this isn’t just a romance tale, this story has direct soil in the larger Marvel terrain and mutant mythos.

The Marvel Rivals Connection: How This ties in with the in-game versions

The hook (their inability to exist on the same plane) seems drawn from how Marvel Rivals already treats Cloak & Dagger in its lore. In the game, they are a single hero unit (Strategist role) who shift between Cloak’s Darkforce and Dagger’s Lightforce modes on the fly.†16 In Rivals, Dagger’s Lightforce provides healing and support (“patches up teammates mid‑brawl”), while Cloak’s Darkforce applies debuffs, pressure, and crowd control.†16 Their duality already embodies this light/dark plane tension.†16

According to the Marvel Rivals official hero page, Cloak & Dagger are described as intertwined by forces of shadow and light—they are one hero in the arena but channel opposing energies.†15

Official Marvel Rivals lore: The game’s written story explicitly describes them becoming one entity.Mentioning: “they become molecularly entangled, existing as one being who can only manifest physically one at a time.”  In this narrative, a “Timestream Entanglement” fuses them so that Dagger’s body vanishes in a teleport mishap, and “her consciousness [is] trapped within Cloak”.  In other words, only one can appear in the world at once – exactly matching the swap mechanic.

Other in game mentions of this merging of the two come in interactions between characters. A pre game interaction between Dagger and Spiderman goes:

Spider-Man: “Hey, Tandy! Where's Ty? You two are usually inseparable!”

Dagger: “That hasn't changed. In fact, we're closer than ever… whether we like it or not…”

Spider-Man: “Are you guys sharing a studio in Hell's Kitchen now? I get it. Rent's been skyrocketing!”

Dagger: “It's actually a bit more complicated than that… You'll see…”

This official game lore has established that these two identities exist in a kind of overlay, constantly balancing between phases of healing and suppression.

So the new comic series appears to lean into that metaphysical concept by making their existence itself unstable: married, yet unable to fully cohabit the same space. The comic premise is essentially a narrative extension of what Rivals has already mechanically dramatized.

Backdrop & Recent Events That Feed Into This Series

In the unfolding Age of Revelation, Marvel fast-forwards ten years into a grim, altered future where the very soul of mutantkind is being redefined. In the months leading up to this event, Doug Ramsey, formerly Cypher, the mutant who could intuitively understand any language, has been elevated by Apocalypse himself to become his heir, now bearing the new mantle “Revelation.”3 Under the influence of devastating shifts (including the mysterious X-Virus that has ravaged swaths of humanity) and through Celestial-augmented transformations of his power, Doug’s linguistic ability has blossomed into a world-reshaping force, he literally speaks to Earth, commanding its threads, reshaping reality, and forging the Revelation Territories, a mutant “utopia” built on hidden horrors.4 What begins as a vision for mutant survival becomes a dictatorship of language and control, and as discontent stirs, a ragtag resistance among the X-Men must rise from the shadows to challenge this new god-king of the mutant world.

Because Cloak Or Dagger is part of Age of Revelation, understanding that event lends weight:

In the X‑Men Monday interview, Ireland confirms that the book is integrated into the event, not mere ancillary tie‑in. “When I realized I could write them as a married couple, I was doubly interested,” she said.♦2

Given the setting of Age of Revelation—a reality reshaping event—this new premise is fertile ground: a couple whose powers and existence are already metaphysically entangled gets forced into a scenario where “plane stability” becomes literal plot currency.

Creator & Artist Background (Brief)

Justina Ireland is known for strong character work across comics (she’s written X‑Men arcs, YA fantasy, and more).♦2 She brings narrative interest in how identity, power, and relationships evolve over time. Lorenzo Tammetta, the series’ artist, is praised by Ireland for bringing both the “silly and serious” dimensions of Tandy and Tyrone to life.♦2 Their collaboration promises a tone that can swing between heartfelt intimacy and cosmic-scale stakes.
